CosmoBot is a child-friendly, interactive remote controlled telerehabilitation robot designed by AnthroTronix, Inc.[1]. CosmoBot is part of an overall assistive technology system that includes the CosmoBot robot, Mission Control input device, and accompanying software. With the accompanying software, CosmoBot can be used as part of a play therapy program that promotes rehabilitation and development of disabled children. During therapy sessions, the CosmoBot system automatically collects data for therapist evaluation.

History

The concept of CosmoBot was created by Dr. Corinna Lathan, who cofounded AnthroTronix, Inc. with Jack Vice in 1999. The entire CosmoBot system is manufactured and marketed by AT KidSystems, Inc[2]. Development of CosmoBot was sponsored by the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation.

Theory

Why was it designed?

CosmoBot was designed as an assistive tool for therapists and educators working with developmentally and learning disabled children, including those with autism and cerebral palsy. Enjoyable interaction with CosmoBot provides motivation for children to develop new skills more quickly than in traditional therapy. CosmoBot is designed to target many educational goals, ranging from communication to developmental goals.

Design goals

The most important goal of CosmoBot is to provide long-term motivation for children to actively participate in therapy and to help children achieve goals set by therapists and educators. Since CosmoBot will be used by children with varying levels of mobility, motor skills, and language, it needs to be easy to use and adaptable to different users. CosmoBot is designed for an inclusive classroom setting and must allow children to interact with their environment. It must be safe to use, hygienic, and durable. The CosmoBot system must include the capability to collect data that the therapist needs to monitor different objectives.

Target Audience

CosmoBot is intended for use by developmentally disabled children ages 5-12 under the guidance of a therapist or educator. The CosmoBot system is expected to be used as part of an Individualized Education Program developed in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. It is currently being marketed to therapists and educators, although AT KidSystems expects to produce a home version of the robot. A home version of the Mission Control input device and accompanying software, Cosmo’s Play and Learn, is currently being marketed to parents of children ages 3-5 with and without disabilities.

The robot

CosmoBot is a 16 inch tall robot with nine degrees of freedom that is controlled by components of the CosmoBot system: a therapist can operate CosmoBot by computer-based software, and children can operate CosmoBot by using one of several input devices described in the next section.

Movement

Hidden wheels allow the robot to move forward and backward on flat surfaces and to rotate left and right. Each arm has two degrees of freedom, allowing the shoulders to flex and rotate to imitate human shoulder joint movement; the robot can raise and lowers its arms, grab objects, and clap. The head moves in pitch (nodding yes) and yaw (shaking no), and the mouth opens and closes.

Modes of operation

The therapist selects which of three modes of operation is appropriate for each therapy goal and creates a lesson tailored to each child.

Live Play

CosmoBot can be programmed to immediately perform actions upon receipt of a command from the therapist or child through any of the input devices (below).

Simon Says

The therapist can make CosmoBot perform an activity, such as lifting its arms, and ask the child to mimic the motions that CosmoBot makes; this activity is similar to the game Simon Says. The therapist can also use a microphone to talk through CosmoBot and ask the child to perform an activity or issue a voice command.

Playback

The therapist or the child can make CosmoBot perform a series of activities while the system records the sequence. The therapist can then play back the sequence while the child performs the activities at the same time. The therapist or child can also tell and record a story or a song through CosmoBot and interact as it is repeated.

Interface and input devices

Software

The software includes a graphical user interface (GUI) that allows the therapist to control the movement of the robot. The software also allows the therapist to set up and monitor the interaction between the child and CosmoBot, and to evaluate their interaction via automatic data collection. The software also stores individual data on the input actions of the children and resulting robotic movement.

Mission Control

Mission Control is CosmoBot’s child-friendly version of a keyboard. It contains four large, pressure-sensitive buttons and incorporates a microphone. It also includes two USB ports for connection of gestural sensors. The therapist uses the GUI to assign a function to each button, such as indicating that depression of the red button will move CosmoBot forward. Activity labels can be placed in front of each button to remind the child of which activity is associated with which button. Four additional buttons can be connected to the back of Mission Control, allowing the therapist to maintain control of the lesson.

Voice input

A microphone is one of the components in Mission Control, allowing voice input to control the robot. The child can control CosmoBot’s movement with speech, using commands such as “forward” and “back”. The therapist can also use the microphone to speak through CosmoBot and engage the child in conversation, or the child can speak through the microphone while CosmoBot’s mouth moves.

Gestural sensors

The child can control CosmoBot’s movement using additional sensors connected to Mission Control. The array of custom sensors from left to right are an adapted OEM joystick, a wearable leg sensor, wearable arm sensor, wearable head sensor, wearable wrist extension glove, and a sensor to measure forearm pronation and supination, showns with arm restraint brace.

Listen to Bob Dylan: A Tribute is a tribute album, dedicated to Bob Dylan. The two disc set was released on August 16 2005 by Drive-Thru Records. Despite the record label’s reputation for its emo/pop punk roster, the compilation album contained cover versions kept close to the originals, instead of pop punk renditions of the songs.

When announced in December 2004, the album was supposed to contain other artists, including Fall Out Boy, Flogging Molly and Hellogoodbye. Later track listings featured “With God on Our Side” by Straylight Run, “Hurricane” by MC Lars and “Subterranean Homesick Blues” by The Kites, which were all cut from the actual release.

Inside the booklet of the double disc album, Stephanie Reines (co-founder of Drive-Thru Records) describes that she hopes the album will be successful in “exposing a new generation of listeners to Bob Dylan.” She also dedicates the album to Dylan, thanking him for “providing the soundtrack to the past 16 years of my life.” Reines also describes how she came about listening to, and enjoying, Bob Dylan.

Digital film festivals emerged in the mid to late 1990s, to showcase artists and filmmakers utilizing the nascent tools of desktop digital filmmaking.

Digital films and animation are now commonly found in mainstream film festivals, but these events laid the groundwork for pioneering works in the area as useful nexus points for digital artists and debates on digital distribution and creation.

The earliest digital film festivals included the MiniDV Festival (now called the The Digital Video Festival]) in Los Angeles, Low Res (later to split into the DFilm and RESFest events), onedotzero, and Exploding Cinema (the International Film Festival Rotterdam digital cinema sidebar). Other digital film festivals include .Mov (Japan), Darklight (Ireland), Bifilm (Germany), MP4Fest at Silver Lake Film Festival (Los Angeles, CA), l0110 (India), Clone (Norway), as well as onedotzero’s international network of events across 60 cities worldwide, among others.

These festivals stretch the traditional boundaries of ‘film festivals’ by including hybrid works from internet art, web animation, computer and video gaming, streaming video, music video, etc.

A day spa is a business establishment which people visit for personal care treatments such as massages and facials. It is similar to a beauty salon in that it is only visited for the duration of the treatment. In contrast, a destination spa offers the same services in a hotel setting where people reside for one or more days.

According to the International SPA Association:

Day Spa – A spa offering a variety of professionally administered spa services to clients on a day-use basis.

The term “Day Spa” was coined back in the 1980’s by Catherine Atzen, upon her entry from France to the US. There is some challenge, from Burke Williams of San Francisco, who also claims to have coined the term. Massage and skin care fanatics await official designation from the Day Spa of the World consortium, who are expected to rule on this contentious item in 2007.

Types of services

Typical day spa services include:

facials — facial cleansing with a variety of products

massage

waxing — the removal of body hair with hot wax

Geodashing is an outdoor sport in which players use GPS receivers on a playing field that covers the entire planet. The waypoints, or dashpoints, to be reached are randomly selected. The win goes to the team that reaches the most dashpoints in a given time.

The game started in early June 2001.

The first game spanned two months (June–July 2001). Since then, most of the games have been one month long. This is one of the ways geodashing is different from geocaching, the fact that each point only exists for a month limits the number of people visiting each point. Also that there is to be nothing left at the dashpoints. (Many players do both caching and dashing.)

Players will often take pictures at the dashpoints and upload them to the site.

Erotic massage is the use of massage techniques for erotic. Widely practiced by couples as part of lovemaking. For example, instead of draping the subject’s body with towels, an erotic massage is usually conducted with the subject naked and undraped. Areas of the body such as the areas around the groin and intimate parts of the body, which are normally not touched in therapeutic massage, will be touched in ways that increase sexual arousal.

Erotic massage may be utilized as a means of stimulating the libido, or increasing the ability of a person to respond positively to sensual stimulus. In some cases, erotic massage can be a form of foreplay without sexual gratification, intended to heighten the sensitivity of an individual prior to another engagement where sexual arousal and fulfillment is intended. In other cases, erotic massage may be used professionally to help men address issues of premature ejaculation. Methods employed may teach the recipient to circulate erotic energy and relax the musculature of his pelvis and thus prolong arousal and increase pleasure.

It is also offered as a service by some massage parlors (not to be confused with establishments that offer only therapeutic massage). In this case, erotic massage may be considered to be a form of sex work, or a form of sex therapy.

Watsu, a portmanteau of water and shiatsu, is a form of body massage performed while lying in warm water (around 35 °C or 95 °F). The receiver of Watsu treatment is continuously supported by the therapist while he or she rocks and gently stretches the body. Because it is performed in the water, the body is free to be manipulated and stretched in ways impossible while on the land.

History

Watsu was created by therapist Harold Dull in the early 1980’s, then director of the Harbin School of Shiatsu and Massage in northern California. The technique slowly evolved as he began to incorporate aspects of Zen shiatsu into his therapy.

Forms

The three main forms of Watsu are Waterdance or Wasser Tanzen, Healing Dance, and the Jahara Technique. Waterdance was created in 1987 by Arjana Brunschwiler and Aman Schroter and involved the client being lowered completely beneath the surface. Healing Dance was created by Alexander Georgeakopoulos and is a mix between Waterdance and traditional Watsu techniques. The Jahara Technique is known as the “gentlest” of the forms because of its constant support and gentle bodywork.

Organization

Watsu and all the above therapies are represented by WABA: The Worldwide Aquatic Bodywork Association, a non-profit organization for the promotion of aquatic bodywork.

Pussy Cat, Pussy Cat is a nursery rhyme.

Rhyme

Pussy cat, pussy cat,

Where have you been?

I’ve been to London to visit the Queen.

Pussy cat, pussy cat,

What did you do there?

I chased a little mouse right under the chair.

The last line sometimes sung as:

I frightened a little mouse, under her chair.

Glastonbury chair is a 19th century term for an earlier wooden folding chair, usually of oak, possibly based on a chair made for the last Abbot of Glastonbury, England. The Glastonbury chair was known to exist since the Early Middle Ages, but seems to have disappeared from use in part of the Later Middle Ages;Folding chairs: Glastonbury type it re-emerged in use in Italy by the 15th century AD. It was devised for use in churches before pews became common.

Gordon Browning was the last maker of the Glastonbury chair. A consummate worker in wood, he delighted in telling the story of the history of the chair he exported around the world.

It was made originally in Britain from a description brought back from Rome in 1504 by Abbot Bere to Glastonbury Abbey, and was produced by John Arthur, a monk who was the treasurer and carpenter at the abbey. The result is thought to have been the first domestic chair seen in Britain. Arthur perished on Glastonbury Tor in 1539, hung, drawn and quartered alongside his master, the last Abbot of Glastonbury, during the dissolution of the monasteries. The Abbot sat on a Glastonbury chair during his trial at Wells, where one of the two original surviving examples can still be seen.

The second chair remained in St John’s Church in Glastonbury until it found its way by an unknown route into the collection of Horace Walpole’s Gothic pile Strawberry Hill in Twickenham, Middlesex. When the contents were sold at the beginning of the century, the then vicar of Glastonbury, the Reverend Lionel Lewis, made an impassioned speech telling the bidders the chair belonged in Glastonbury. Nobody bidding against him, Lewis took the chair back to Glastonbury where it is extant in St John’s Church.

Browning had lived in Glastonbury for 80 years by the time of his death, with a brief absence during the Second World War, when he was employed making aircraft frames in Bristol. His son Clive said, “When my father was asked if he had lived all his life in Glastonbury, he loved to say - not yet.”

Pernink (German: Bärringen) is a village in Karlovy Vary District in the Czech Republic. It is situated in the valley of Bílá Bystřice at 840 m above the sea level. It has approximately 650 residents.

At the beginning of the 16th century, mining pioneers settled in the area dominated by dense forest. According to a legend, a bear found silver-stones there. The legend is preserved in the coat of arms and also in the German name (Bär = Bear). In 1532, a settlement called Peringer was raised to mining town status. The town received further privileges in 1559 and 1562. The predominant industry was mining of silver and tin. The area between Pernink, Abertamy and Horní Blatná used to be called Silver triangle. Following the Thirty years war, most of the protestant miners left to neighbouring Saxony. Mining was gradually replaced by forestry and specialized crafts (e.g. lace-making).

In the first part of the 19th century, Adalbert Meinl founded a textile factory. Small workshop for manufacturing wooden and iron products were established. In 1843, the town had almost 1800 residents, living in 207 houses. The economic situation was bolstered by opening of a railway line Karlovy Vary - Johanngeorgenstadt in 1899. In the inter-war period, number of residents risen to approximately 3500. After the Second World War, almost 90% if the inhabitants had to move to Germany. Hundreds of new inhabitants came in 1946. Following closure of uranium mines in Jáchymov, the number of residents decreased. Many houses are currently used as weekend cottages.

At present, the largest single employer is the textile factory. Tens of inhabitants work in services related to tourism. There are several ski-lifts and marked routes for both cross country skiing, hiking and cycling. The tourists can take advantage of the high elevation of the local railway station (902 m above the sea level, the highest one in Ore Mountains and second highest in the Czech Republic).

A wind controller, sometimes referred to as a “wind synth” or “wind synthesizer”, can loosely be defined as an electronic wind instrument. Wind controllers are most commonly played and fingered like a saxophone though models have been produced that play and finger like other acoustic instruments such as the trumpet, recorder, tin whistle, and others. A wind controller might convert fingering, breath pressure, bite pressure, finger pressure, and other sensors into control signals which are then used to control internal or external devices such as analog synthesizers, MIDI synthesizers, MIDI softsynths, MIDI sequencers, MIDI lighting systems, etc… A wind controller usually does not make a sound on its own. It usually is connected to some sort of sound generating device such a MIDI or analog synthesizer or sound module/generator which is then connected to an amplifier. For this reason, a wind controller generally can sound like anything depending on the capabilities of the connected sound generator. The fingering and shape of the controller are not related to how the wind controller sounds. For example, woodwind type wind controller could sound like a trumpet, drum, or barking dog, while a brass type wind controller could sound like a saxophone.

William James “Kimo” Wall was born in Hawaii in 1943. (”Kimo” is the Hawaiian equivalent of “Jim”.) At the age of six he began training in Goju-ryu karate under teachers who had studied with Miyagi Chojun during his three-year stay in Hawaii. In 1961 he joined the US Marine Corps and was stationed in Okinawa, where he trained Goju-ryu karate in the dojo of Higa Seiko. Matayoshi Shinho taught kobudo (ancient weapons) in the same building, and Kimo studied under him as well. He became a friend of both families, and through them he met and trained with other karate masters who had been students of Miyagi, such as Kina Seiko and Shoshin Nagamine.

In 1970, after several years in Vietnam, Kimo Wall founded his own organization, which he named Kodokan in honor of Master Matayoshi’s school. He traveled a great deal and he and his students founded schools in Puerto Rico, Guatemala, New York, and California.
In 1981 he began teaching for the Physical Education department at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Today Kimo Wall lives in Canton, Georgia, where he continues to teach karate and kobudo. He also runs a massage therapy practice, using the principles of Thai massage, which he studied under Dr. Chongkol Setthakorn at the Northern Medicine Hospital in Chiangmai, Thailand.

Observing vulnerability in existing homeland defense capabilities, GammaSight’s physicists began work on a revolutionary approach for detecting dangerous materials in a fast, safe, secure and accurate manner. The resulting product is a detection and inspection system named NIRIDS (Non Intrusive Rapid Inspection and Detection System) capable of doing what no other existing technology can accomplish.

GammaSight’s proprietary system can rapidly and simultaneously detect weapons of mass destruction (WMD), including fissile materials, chemical weapons, plastic explosives, and conventional explosives with a commercially-viable high throughput and a low false alarm rate providing a higher level of protection than previously possible — all, without the need for operator intervention or subjective decision making. NIRIDS is a technological leap forward, dramatically different from the single-threat detection systems currently in operation.

Dr. Gerald Deskin, Ph.D. (January 10 1929 - March 9 2004) was a clinical child psychologist, marriage and family therapist. He was credited with the founding of The Learning Center Foundation, a non-profit foundation dedicated to research and the diffusion of knowledge for assisting those with learning disabilities, especially dyslexia, in children. The Learning Center was founded in 1967 and continues to run as non-profit foundation in Encino, California. In its nearly four decades existence, The Learning Center has assisted many tens of thousands of children from the Los Angeles area.

He was also the best-selling co-author of “The Parent’s Answer Book: Over 101 Most-Asked Questions About Your Child’s Well-Being.” This book is particularly relevant to first time parents who are seeking help in raising their children from a professional without the expense of seeking individual assistance. “When Nothing Makes Sense: Disaster, Crisis, and Their Effects on Children,” another best selling book, has been particularly relevant in the wake of the September 11th disaster. Parents refer to this manual to negotiate their children through understanding our current environment.

Dr. Deskin was a member of the Health Disaster Team of the American Red Cross and played an active role in “Project Rebound” in Los Angeles after the January 17, 1994 California earthquake.

(ed. motors numbering above 3 are uncommon) “Muscle wired” walkers ultilizes Nitinol (nickel - titanium alloy) for its actuators.

BEAM walking robots are creating using something called NV nets. An NV net consists of NV neurons each of which is a very simple oscillator setup. The most common form of BEAM walker is the master slave Bicore, this uses two suspended Bicore arrangements.

A BEAM walker does not use a processor, nor is it programmed in any way! despite this it is able to walk and respond to terrain via resistive input from its motors. This is an extremely clever method for creating locomotion.

An Example of a two motor walker can be seen at TomboT.net[1]

The ZERO candy bar, introduced in 1920, is a candy bar composed of a combination of caramel, peanut and almond nougat covered with a layer of white fudge. Its outwardly white color, an unusual color for a candy bar, has become its trademark.

History

ZERO was first launched by the Hollywood Brands candy company of Hollywood, Minnesota in 1920 as the Double Zero Bar and was renamed “ZERO” in 1934. Initial manufacturing of the candy bar began at its factory in Centralia, Illinois and continued through many acquisitions of the company.

Hollywood Brands was first sold to Consolidated Foods Corporation in 1967 (which later became Sara Lee) and survived production after a fire destroyed the Centralia plant in 1980. A new production facility opened in 1983, and in 1988 Hollywood Brands was purchased by Huhtamaki Oy of Helsinki, Finland and became part of Leaf, Inc.

Hershey Foods Corporation took over Leaf North America confectionery operations in 1996, and with it came the production of the ZERO candy bar.

Hot Stone Massage can be a dual purpose massage. Due to the heat of the stones, it is always a highly relaxing, stress reduction massage. The hardness of the stones allows the therapist to address specific problem areas with more detailed work or deeper pressure.

Basalt stones of various sizes, shapes and weights are used throughout. Some stones are the size of the tip of your thumb (these are used between the toes), while others can be very large - 2 or 3 pounds (1 to 1½ kg) in weight. These larger stones are normally used on the sacrum or low abdomen.

The stones are heated using water, and the ideal, safe temperature range of the heated water should range from 130 to 145 degrees Fahrenheit (54–63 °C). Heavy duty rubber gloves or a slotted spoon is used by the therapist to remove stones from the heating container. The job of the experienced, trained therapist is to closely monitor the heat level of the stones before placing on the client, plus keep track of which stones are to be used on various parts of the body. Stones which are too low in temperature fail to adequately relax the stressed muscle tissues and simply do not feel all that good. Alternatively, stones that are way too hot will impart extreme discomfort and anxiety to the client. Fortunately, the human body has an excellent temperature gauge and a client in most cases will and should, immediately respond in a negative way to an excessively hot stone, which tells the therapist to remove the stone. A good stone therapist will use a constant read digital thermometer in the heated water, keeping a vigilant watch on the temperature range.

Technique

The stones are used in two ways during the massage. One is to impart heat onto the body by laying stones under the client with a layer of fabric between the client and stone (a sheet or towel) and/or on top of the client, again upon a towel. Stone layout typically will be along both sides of the the spine, or along the chakra centers on top and baseball sized stones would be placed in the hands. While these layout stones are delivering concentrated centers of heat, the therapist is simultaneously massaging the client with oiled, heated stones held in the palm of the hand with firm strokes along the muscles of the legs, arms, and torso areas.

An authentic hot stone massage is not simply the “gliding” of heated stones lightly upon the surface of the skin, but rather the stones are used as tools to deliver effective tissue and muscle massage at a pressure level comfortable to the client. The client can request light, medium or deep pressure, which is the beauty of the hot stone massage technique. It can be customized in an instant to the request of the client. The hardness of the stones makes for a fantastic deep tissue massage and is easy on the joints of the therapists hands.

A good stone massage, when properly performed, will accomplish many of the goals and benefits of other massage modalities. Many paths often lead to the same destination - and so it is with a great stone massage.

The heat from the stones relaxes muscles, increase the blood flow to the area being worked on which further accelerates the healing process. The heat also greatly aids in mental relaxation.

Stones need to be kept heated in clean, sanitized water between 130 to 145 degrees. If your therapist is not using rubber gloves or a tool to remove the stones from the hot water, be cautious of unsanitary conditions. Hot water prevents the growth of bacteria. Water temperatures kept too low may allow the proliferation of bacteria, algae, and mold, especially if the water has not been changed. The best way to get a safe hot stone massage is to inquire how many hours of hot stone training the therapist has received. The best trainings consist of 3 to 5 full days of intensive training. A one day class, or 2 hour video training is not sufficient.

Historical developments

A compilation of a list of integrals (Integraltafeln) and techniques of integral calculus
was published by the German mathematician Meyer Hirsch in 1810. These tables were republished in the
United Kingdom in 1823. More extensive tables were compiled in 1858 by the Dutch mathematician David de Bierens de Haan. A new edition was published in 1862. These tables, which contain mainly integrals of elementary functions, remained in use until the middle of
the 20th century. They were then replaced by the much more extensive tables of Gradshteyn and Rhyzik.
In Gradshteyn and Rhyzik, integrals originating from the book by de Bierens are denoted by BI.

Other lists of integrals

Gradshteyn and Ryzhik contains a large collection of results. Other useful resources include the CRC Standard Mathematical Tables and Formulae and Abramowitz and Stegun. A&S contains many identities concerning specific integrals, which are organized with the most relevant topic instead of being collected into a separate table.
There are several web sites which have tables of integrals and integrals on demand.

Gudauri is a ski resort located on the southern slopes of The Greater Caucasus Mountain Range in Georgia. The resort is situated in the Stepantsminda District, along the Georgian Military Highway near the Cross Pass, at an elevation of 2,196 meters (7,200ft.) above sea level. Gudauri lies 120km (75 miles) to the north of the capital Tbilisi. The trip from Tbilisi to Gudauri usually takes two hours by car. The resort offers high quality skiing opportunities. The slopes of Gudauri are completely above the tree line and are best for free-riders and are generally considered to be avalanche-safe. The ski season lasts from December to April. Heli Skiing is also available throughout the season.

Heliski

Heliskiing is one of Gudauri’s most unique offerings and it provides skiers with access to some of the finest powder-snow in the Caucasus. With helicopters granted almost unrestricted access to local mountains, skiers can experience some of the most sublime runs in Europe - at altitudes between 1,500 and 4,200 meters above sea level. The helicopters drop clients off on mountain tops, glaciers, fabulous ridges - and in the hands of highly experienced guides. Gudauri’s helicopters are serviced and operated by the Swiss company “Alpin Travel”
Ltd.

Routes and lifts

Gudauri contains several routes and lifts. The first, lower lift station is at 1,990m above seal level and the last, top station is at 3,007m, called Kudebi.
The lifts are by Doppelmayer. The first lift is 1,010 m long (three chairs), the second – 2,310 m long (four chairs) and the third – 1,060 m long (three chairs). The lift usually works from 10 to 16-17.

Lock is a function that locks part of a keyboard keys depending on the lock settings selected.
Most keyboards have three different types of lock functions:

Number Lock – Num Lock

Capital Lock – Caps Lock

Scrolling Lock – Scroll Lock

The lock keys are scattered around the keyboard. Most styles of keyboards have three LEDs indicating which locks are enabled, in the upper right corner above the numpad. Some ergonomic keyboards instead place the lock indicators in between the key split.
Some brands of keyboards have an “Office Lock” key, and may replace the scroll lock indicator with an office lock indicator. Office Lock, when enabled, will enable alternate functions of the function keys, meant for use with various word processing or email programs.

Num Lock is usually located in the upper left corner of the number pad. When enabled, this allows the user to type numbers by pressing the keys on the number pad, rather than having them act as up, down, left, right, page up, end, and so forth.

Caps Lock is located at left end of the keyboard, above the left shift key. When enabled, letters the user types will be in uppercase by default rather than lowercase.

Scroll Lock is usually located to the right of the function keys.

An X-chair is a chair with X-shaped frame. It was known in Ancient Egypt, Rome, and Greece.

History

A type of folding chair with a frame like an X viewed from the front or the side originated in medieval Italy. Also known as a Savonarola or Dante chair in Italy, or a Luther chair in Germany, the X-chair was a light and practical form that spread through Renaissance Europe. In England, the Glastonbury chair made an X-shape by crossing the front and back legs, while in Spain X-chairs were inlaid with ivory and metals in the Moorish designs.

Design

The woodwork was nearly always completely covered with silk or velvet, and the seat was made up of loose cushions resting on webbing between the side rails of the frames. The form was revived in the Neo-classical period and features in Thomas Sheraton’s Cabinet Directory. It continued through the 19th century as a folding portable chair for use during campaigns or other outdoor pursuits.

The Association for Reformational Philosophy, formerly the Association for Calvinistic Philosophy, was incorporated in the Netherlands where the majority of its members are still located along with the Foundation (Stichting in Dutch) and the Centre for Reformational Philosophy. The Dutch title of the Association was changed from Vereniging voor Calvinistische Wijsbegeerte to Vereniging voor Reformatorische Wijsbegeerte (VRW). The Association was formed as a result of the interest that rallied into a movement for Christian philosophy subsequent to the publication in 1933 of D. H. Th. Vollenhoven’s Het Calvinisme en de Reformatie der Wijsbegeerte (Calvinism and the Reformation of Philosophy), and the additional interest generated by the 1935-36 publication of Herman Dooyeweerd’s three volumes De Wijsbegeerte der Wetsidee (The Philosophy of the Law-Idea, often abbreviated “WdW”).

The change of name represents a long-gathering process of clarification, under the chairmanship of Vollenhoven, professor of philosophy at the Free University of Amsterdam, who remained in office for many years; and articulated by Dooyeweerd, professor of jurisprudence at the same university, in terms of a desire to function as a “reformational-ecumenical” movement in philosophy in dialogue with related projects in the philosophical foundations of the sciences, and concerned with an integrative encyclopedia of the sciences.

The VRW maintains a website in Dutch and English, and numbers about 600 members today. Early on, a large group of the Association formed a separate organization to initiate the Foundation for External Professorial Chairs for Calvinistic Philosophy at state universities of the Netherlands (Stichting voor Bijzondere Leerstoelen voor Calvinistische Wijsbegeerte). Today, there are seven such chairs occupied by VRW-related professors at the following Dutch universities (in parentheses) as a matter of Dutch national law for universities:

Prof.dr. Marc de Vries (Delft)

Prof.dr. Maarten Verkerk (Eindhoven)

Prof.dr.ir. Egbert Schuurman (Wageningen)

Prof.dr. Gerrit Glas (Leiden)

Prof.dr. Jan Hoogland (Twente)

Prof.dr. Roel Kuiper (Rotterdam)

The presence of these externally-mandated Chairs in Philosophy in state-university philosophy faculties, can be made a bit more poignant by an example of what the VRW movement initiated when it was still the Vereniging voor Calvinistische Wijsbegeerte. Today the oldest and perhaps still most prestigious university in the Netherlands, the University of Leiden, has in its Philosophy Faculty eleven regular professorial chairs, and thanks to the law fought for and to the continuing energy of the Foundation for External Chairs sponsored by the Vollenhoven-led VCW/VRW, there are additionally today at Leiden University, four external chairs: one each for Reformational philosophy, for philosophy in relation to the Catholic life-way, for the Metaphysics of Theosophy, and for the philosophical anthropology and principles of Humanism.

Perineal massage is the practice of massaging the perineum to make it more flexible in preparation for childbirth. The intention is to attempt to prevent tearing of the perineum during birth, the need for an episiotomy or an instrument (forceps or vacuum extraction) delivery.

Randomized clinical trials of perineal massage have shown its effectiveness in reducing class two and three level tears to be on the order of 5 to 7 percent (over not doing the massage). Thus some consider it of marginal utility.

Prostate massage and prostate milking are terms used to describe the massage or stimulation of the prostate gland in males, either for medical or sexual purposes. The two terms are interchangeable, although “massage” is more frequently used when the purpose is relief of symptoms of chronic prostatitis, and “milking” when the purpose is the reduction of sexual activity or drive through removal of prostatic fluid. In the BDSM realm, it is sometimes used as feminization under the term “sissy milking”.

The prostate is a part of male sexual response, and a key contributor to male orgasm. Located adjacent to the rectum, it can be stimulated manually. Seminal fluids collected in the prostate are released during orgasm.

Prostate massage thus refers to any action which stimulates the gland. Prostate milking more usually refers to the specific practice of relieving the buildup of seminal fluids within the prostate, and discharging them by means of massage without orgasm or ejaculation.

Aspects

Prostate massage is sometimes carried out as a medical procedure for the treatment of chronic prostatitis and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), although it is highly inadvisable for patients with acute prostatitis, for whom the infection can spread elsewhere in the body if massage is performed.

Done internally either by lubricated finger(s), a prostate massager or other medical instrument, prostate massage may result in orgasm without any genital stimulation. It can also be indirectly massaged externally through the perineum, although this may not be effective in the removal of fluid.

No more pressure should be used than for rubbing an eyeball. The procedure is initially undertaken gently using the index finger and a latex glove by massaging the lobes on either side of the prostate, taking care not to rub vigorously on the nerves in the middle.

If the prostate is full and stimulated sexually in some cases it may consciously and voluntarily be contracted, thereby emptying itself in the same way as during ejaculation but with none of the surrounding organs stimulated, without actually squeezing it digitally.

Electroejaculation is a procedure in which nerves are stimulated via an electric probe, which is inserted into the rectum adjacent to the prostate. It is most commonly encountered in animal husbandry for the purpose of collecting samples for testing or breeding. Prostate milking is also encountered as part of sexual activities, particularly involving the use of sexual denial.

Medical information

There are some health risks associated with prostate massage if performed incorrectly. Gentle massage may “help to drain painfully sequestered secretions in a chronically [but not acutely] inflamed prostate gland or seminal vesicles”, and the massage around the prostate may benefit the muscles there. However a study in 2006 found no additional benefit for adding prostate massage to antibiotics alone in treating prostatitis. Vigorous massage, or massage to an acute prostatitis case, in some cases may be dangerous, possibly leading to local cellulitis (Fournier’s gangrene), septicaemia (blood poisoning), transfer of prostate cancer to other parts of the body, or hemorrhoidal flare-up in some individuals. Very gentle external anal massage, which relaxes the sphincter muscles, has been shown to relieve hemorrhoids and fissures.

Whilst a prostate massage can benefit some men, it is important to be aware that there are risks involved with massaging a prostate that is suffering from an ailment or using too much force. Minimum pressure must be used, and using unreasonable vigor may result in damage to the very sensitive soft tissues and nerves of which it is made.

It is gentler to perform manually than with most medical implements because the finger is softer and allows more control.

Equipment

A prostate massager is an instrument used anally, designed to massage the prostate gland.

The shape of a prostate massager is similar to a finger, since prostate massages are traditionally given digitally. They usually have a slightly curved head to effectively massage the prostate. Lubricant is usually inserted into the anus. A prostate massager should be used with care because of the sensitivity of the prostate and rectal region. Correct use involves a medium to light repetitive massage, or circular motion—the tool is not intended for use in a thrusting manner. Aneros in Japan is a patented line of prostate massage sex toys.

Lakewood assembled Chevrolets, Pontiacs, Oldsmobiles and Buicks at various points in their history, and also began assembling Chevrolet trucks (though not GMCs) from 1929 thru at least 1986. The 1990 model year Chevrolet Caprice B-Body model line was the last vehicle produced at Lakewood, the plant closing it’s doors on August 6th. At the time of it’s demolition some years later, Lakewood was a 2,600,000 square foot facility.

Cascade Mountain is in Essex County of New York. It is one of the 46 Adirondack High Peaks and is located in the Adirondack Park. Its name comes from a series of waterfalls on a brook near the mountain’s base. The lake it flows into and the pass between Cascade and Pitchoff mountains are also named Cascade.

Cascade Mountain towers over the Van Hoevenberg ski center, the venue for cross-country skiing at the 1980 Winter Olympics.

Of the 46 Adirondack High Peaks, Cascade is the most accessible and the most frequently climbed, often by infrequent hikers who climb no other High Peak. The main trailhead is on Route 73 6 miles (10 km) east of Lake Placid, at Cascade Pass, overlooking Cascade Lake, and plenty of parking is available alongside the road. The summit is visible from the trailhead, a rare occurrence in the High Peaks.

The well-used trail follows red plastic markers and takes the hiker up 2.2 miles (4.6 km) and almost 2,000 vertical feet (600 vertical m) to the mountain’s bare-rock summit, which although it may resemble the alpine summits found on many higher peaks is instead the result of a 1903 fire in the region.

Views are possible in all directions, and on a clear day with good weather in the summer months one can easily find many hikers up there taking it all in along with lunch.

Experienced and fit hikers, as well as those aspiring to become Adirondack Forty-Sixers, frequently add to the easy side trip to neighboring Porter Mountain, another High Peak.

XBCD is a driver that allows owners of a Xbox controller to use it on a Windows computer. The controller itself is an USB device with an extra wire (V-sync, usually yellow). With an appropriate adaptor, users can use the controller with a PC.

XBCD also supports Xbox 360 Controllers, allowing them expanded support for DirectInput.

The actual software allows users to use the vibration functions of the Xbox controller, and remap the buttons and axes of the controller. As an example, pressing X on the controller could be mapped so that it increments the X-axis in whatever game you are playing.

XBCD uses DirectInput 8, and may include Xinput support in the future.

Current development of XBCD aims to add support for Wireless Xbox 360 controllers. Wireless controllers for the PC are known to have issues using XBCD as they require a driver for their individual receivers, and report different values than the wired controller.

A new version of the setup utility has been developed to support both Xbox 360 and Xbox controllers, as well as improving performance when running and adding various user interface enhancements.

The Aeron chair is a product of Herman Miller, designed in 1994 by Don Chadwick and Bill Stumpf. It is an ergonomic chair which is expensive but regarded by many as very comfortable. The chair became a symbol of the rise and fall of the dot-com industry in the late 1990s. However, its breakthrough design has gained it a spot in the New York Museum of Modern Art’s permanent collection.

The chair is not upholstered. Instead, the seat and back are made of a semi-transparent and flexible mesh called Pellicle. Another noteworthy feature is that the Aeron is manufactured in three different sizes, A, B and C for Small, Medium and Large respectively. You can check the size of a given chair by feeling the number of dots (1, 2 or 3) under the handle at the top of the back.

The initial struggle to find a market for the chair is discussed in Malcolm Gladwell’s book Blink.

The average board of directors has nine members, and the total population of board members of public companies traded on the NYSE, NASDAQ and AMEX stock exchanges is about 53,000. A USA Today analysis of corporate reports found a high degree of inter-relation:

of the 15 largest companies in the United States, 11 of them have two board members that sit together on another company’s board

four of those 15 share at least two board members with another of the 15

more than 1000 board members sit on four boards or more; 235 board members sit on more than six boards

major banks are at the center of many of the overlapping ties

Watchdogs point out that interlocking directorates may cause conflicts of interest, poor governance and poor compensation decisions, a lack of fresh perspective, and the concentration of corporate power into a single extended social network. CEO interlocks are seen as a particular concern for potential conflicts of interest. Proving direct harm to stockholders is difficult, though, because there is no clear definition of how much overlap is acceptable, and in any case board members are selected by stockholders’ votes.

Kum Nye (Tibetan: sKu-mNyé) is a Tibetan Buddhist movement practice, somewhat in the tradition of Yoga or Tai Chi. Kum Nye literally means “subtle body massage” in Tibetan. There are many forms of Kum Nye which have been practiced in Tibet.

One form belongs to the “Medical Tantras”: the body of knowledge which describes Tibetan medical practices and medicines, where it is used to promote health and healing, much like Qi Gong.

Other forms are more esoteric, such as those belonging to the Dzogchen teachings. Kum Nye is used in the Dzogchen teachings belonging to the Longde (Tib. klong sde), the series of Space and Men-ngak (Tib. man ngag sde, Sanskrit upadesha), the series of secret Oral Instructions.

These forms of Kum Nye can also vary greatly between teachers/transmissions, and are used to develop energy channels and increase sensitivities.

Some forms of Kum Nye are very slow moving, similar to Tai Chi. Others seem to resemble various forms of Yoga. Still others are intensely aerobic and resemble “fire traditions” of Yoga or Qi Gong.

The Kum Nye which is described in the books by Tarthang Tulku appear to be largely from the Medical Tantra, but include exercises similar to those found in the Dzogchen series. It is very hardworking and based on very slow movements, stillness practices, and massage. This Kum Nye has been described as Inner Massage.

An Exercise Example:
In the exercise “Flying”: one extends one’s arms slowly out from the side up to stretching above the head and then slowly back down again. One cycle can take anywhere between 2 and 10 minutes.
The practice of breathing in and out of both nose and mouth at the same time is recommended while doing the exercises. The key is to pay close attention to the subtleties of sensations and the quality of experience while doing the exercises, thus linking body and mind in the presence of awareness given to the sensations.

Kum Nye has been popularized in the West through publications by Tarthang Tulku and Ngakpa Chogyam. Kum Nye is related to the Nyingma and Bön traditions.
